cruise review: Cunard Cruise lines

Cunard Cruise Lines
www.cunardline.com

Site Features:
Ports of Call, Fleet, Travel Agent Finder, Cunard Company Info

Site Report:

Cunard Cruise Lines has a long history of innovative thinking. For example:

In 1840, their ship the “Brittannia” was the first to offer regularly scheduled trans-atlantic voyages.

In 1881, Cunard’s “Servia” was the first cruise liner to have electric light.

And in 1914 their “Aquitania” was the first ship to feature an indoor swimming pool.

But while their website is functional and easy to follow, it’s not as progressive as you would expect from such traditionally forward thinkers.

The site is largely a very nice print ad for the 160-year-old company’s various expeditions, which include year-round, round the world voyages.

Two nice feature the site offers are a “virtual cruise consultant” who promises to find all the cruises which meet your criteria and Quicktime video views of the company’s ships and amenities.

To talk with a virtual cruise consultant simply click on “Cruise Consultant” and enter your desired departure date, cruise length, ports of call, ship and season and the consultant will instantly match your criteria to their closest cruise offering, if available.

To see panoramic views of the world famous Queen Elizabeth 2’s grand lounge or casino just click on Quickview and download the software.

But this is where the Cunard ingenuity ends. While you can find out all about your “dream” cruise and even make a preliminary reservation, you have to leave the site and find a travel agent to book.

Cunard will direct you to an affiliated agent however - just type in your zip code and get out a pen and paper.
