Site Report:
The current MGM Grand Hotel and Casino was built in 1993, as the embodiment of Kirk Kerkorian's dream of a new Vegas.
Guests to this hotel walk through the mouth of a 45 foot tall lion and into the impressive emerald green interior. It
IS the New Vegas. It's also the biggest hotel in world right now (though several bigger in Vegas are in planning stages) with 5,034 rooms. The non-smokers amongst us should be excited to hear that over 3,000 of these rooms are for those who don't smoke. There are 751 suites for the well heeled guests, and for the true high rollers there are 51 two-story lofts located on the top two floors of the hotel. The lofts are not the most luxurious appointments at the MGM Grand. That honor falls to the 29 private villas located inside The Mansion at MGM Grand, named "Best of the Best" Hotel in the prestigious 2004 Robb Report’s Luxury Issue.
Of course, rooms are one thing, but many folks go to Las Vegas thinking only about one thing -- gambling. To that end, MGM Grand has you covered. They have more than 170,000 square feet of gaming area with all the trimmings... Blackjack, Craps, Mini-Baccarat, Roulette, Baccarat, Pai Gow Poker, Big Six, Caribbean Stud Poker, Let It Ride, Spanish 21, Casino War, Keno, slot machines, video poker and The Race and Sports Book.
If you're looking to eat well, you can dine at one of MGM Grand's fine dining establishments. Here's a partial list:
NOBHILL, Craftsteak, Emeril's New Orleans Fish House, Wolfgang Puck Bar and Grill, Rainforest Café, Pearl, Seablue, Teatro, Diego, Häagen-Dazs, Nathan's Famous (hot dogs), McDonald's, and even a Starbucks.
Aside from the headlining comics and musical acts at the MGM Grand's Grand Garden Arena, this hotel hosts two of the best known acts on the Strip. Direct from Paris's renowned Crazy Horse, the La Femme French dance troupe titillates with nude-female beauty embellished by sensuous, textured lighting. But the real reason to see the a show at the MGM Grand is to see the Ka show, presented by Cirque du Soleil.
MGM's website is templated and reminds us of the first MGM site that we visited, the
Bellagio. The user can see all the amenities and easily book a room. That,
plus the fact that it's in Vegas makes it a site you're going to need to see.
