Site Report:
Spirit Airlines is 15 years old already!

Like any teenager, they've had some challenges, but they've grown up big and strong right in front of our eyes. Spirit currently serves 18 markets in the United States, Caribbean, and Mexico with 120 daily flight departures.

From the beginning, Spirit Airlines sought to provide high quality air fare at the lowest possible cost. They are currently the largest private airline in the United States and they continue to run their business in a profitable manner even in these challenging times. They provide good service at low prices. Their fares require no Saturday night stays and no advance purchase.

Spirit Airlines began it's airline life in 1980 named Charter One. They operated as a Detroit-based charter tour operator providing travel packages to entertainment destinations such as Atlantic City, Las Vegas and the Bahamas. They added in some service to and from Boston. Then on May 29, 1992 Charter One brought jets into the fleet and they changed their name to Spirit Airlines.

In September 2002, Spirit proved it was not only a low cost carrier, but one that provided quality service as well. They introduced Spirit Plus, an upgraded coach class with 2 by 2 seating, leather seats allowing more room for work or relaxing.

How does Spirit Airlines keep it's fares so low? Well for one thing, they run their business like a low cost carrier. Point to point flights with all the same planes assure that every flight crew can fly every plane, and they can keep those planes in the air longer. Also, Spirit Airlines does not offer expensive airport clubs or any other high cost features. They pass those saving on to you.

Currently, Spirit offers service to the following cities: ATLANTIC CITY NASSAU, BAHAMAS, CANCUN, NEW YORK, CHICAGO, ORLANDO, DETROIT, PROVIDENCE, BOSTON, FORT LAUDERDALE, SAN JUAN, PR, FORT MYERS, SANTO DOMINGO, DOMINICAN REPUBLIC, LAS VEGAS, TAMPA, LOS ANGELES, WASHINGTON, DC, MYRTLE BEACH and WEST PALM BEACH.

Spirit Airlines sells a lot of their tickets through their own website. The site is fairly lean, but this is to be expected from a company that focuses on quality, low cost service. There are no frills, but the site works well. The Travelsites team has used the Spirit Air site several times. They currently have a program called Syber Specials. Syber Special Fares are only available for purchase on Spiritair.com and might be your chance for the lowest fares to your destination.
