  • Grab a ferry for a day trip out to Mackinac Island, where you will find no automobiles, only horse-drawn carriages, bikes, hiking trails, and the Round Island Lighthouse. The Wilderness State Park is a great area to spend the day fishing, hiking, and exploring the shoreline. Mill Creek State Historic Park contains beautiful forests, and scenic views where the Straits of Mackinac and Mackinac Island can be viewed, in addition to the reconstructed sawmill. The fishing pier on Lake Huron is a great spot for fishing for perch, bass, salmon and the occasional trout, or you can charter a boat. Educational experiences as well as fun and enjoyment can be found at Garlyn Zoo and Rominak Ranch observing all of the animals. Explore the past at Fort Michilimackinac, a reconstructed French fur-trading village and military outpost, the Mackinaw Bridge Museum with thousands of artifacts that honor the dedication of steel workers, and the Old Mackinac Point Lighthouse. Mackinaw Crossings, a fifty store shopping, dining and entertainment complex and the Mackinaw Theatre, which features live entertainment throughout the season should be added to area attractions. Also, the Crossings complex features a free nightly Laser Light Show called 'Northern Lights' which is a signature of the area, and not to be missed.
